Guesses on the accepted file format for Age Creation tools?

If you feel like you're up to the challenge of building your own Ages in Blender or 3ds Max, this is the place for you!

I sincerely hope that Cyan isn't working on a tool for converting .blend files to a 3DS Max format... because their tool would never be released.

(The .blend format is essentially a memory dump of what Blender was doing when you saved. So it changes with every version, and is a complete mess to work with)

There's only one program that attempts to fully support the .blend format, that being Blender.

Well the only other option I see, is a completely reworked plugin specifially for blender- which they will probably won't do.

But we will see what hapopenes next year, and your H'uru studio project.

The current plugin has come such a long way, it wouldn't be smart of Cyan to not build upon that. I would love Cyan to have periodical sessions or some other kinda info sharing with the plugin wizards to tackle specific problems and techniques.

For the plugin I would love to see some custom windows or panels for age creation. Easier methods for adding properties (someone was once working on that wasn't there?), adding animation (Blender has a timeline and all), adding sound, etc. With stuff like that there is no need for Cyan to build a tool or plugin or release any software at all. All that is needed is info on the inner workings of Plasma and updates on changes and additions to it.

Somewhere last year we had a big session (was it with Eric) and one of the things that scared me was the mentioning of ready to use objects, terrains and other stuff. All to enable anybody to build and age. At the time this sounded way too restrictive to me. I'd rather see the current plugin being developed as it is being done right now. After reading the posts in this forum it's clear to me that much of the needed knowledge to do cool things is already there.

I would encourage Cyan to use the interbellum until Season 2 to spend some chat time with the PRP developers or share some fraps movies with them to show how the 3DSM plugin works. And gather lotsa docs for them :D :D

yay, my favorite topic of chatting. :)
For litterally years many people have asked, pleaded, and even begged for a move from Cyan in that direction. But some things take time to happen. And now it appears they are finally ready to make the move. Remember Yeesha's word lately how we should build Ages? If that isn't a blatant hint I don't know what it is..
Now it's hard to say at this point whether they will give away tools, or documentation, or just wait for us to do something, but custom Ages in Live definitely seem to be on the horizon. Maybe we'll know more after the end of the Episode and/or in the upcoming weeks.. At least if they want some custom Ages ready for the start of season 2.

[edit]
Ok season finale has come and gone, and we have no new info about that precise subject other than the usual 'find a way, make a home'.
