Black screen

If you feel like you're up to the challenge of building your own Ages in Blender or 3ds Max, this is the place for you!

Okay, 2 of the guys that are having this problem said that the lower texture sizes didn't fix it either. They link in okay. It's just everything is black. They can run around and hear their footsteps, but they can't see anything.

What is confusing is that others that have tried the Age are NOT having this problem.

I've tried everything I could think of to replicate it on my computer, but it runs just fine each time.
The script file, is only for the journals. If you remove it, it just makes it to where you can't click on the journals, but everything looks fine.

Now I exported this Age using the plugin that Trylon just released. Could that have something to do with it? And if so, then why would it work on some peoples computers, but not others?

AGain, it's not that the Age is conflicting with another Age. They are not crashing. They just can't see anything. All their other Ages work just fine.
And one of these guys had tried my first Age it it worked fine on their computer.

I'm at my wits end here......

Huh?
And you still can put in footstep regions? Code for that is supposed to be broken in that version.... Which is very very alpha btw...
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

yah, the footstep areas worked just fine.

Now keep in mind these areas were already in place when I put in the new plugin, I didn't add any since then.

Okay, I copyed stuff over to my wife's computer. She has a different graphics card than me. An ATI Radeon 9250.

Bingo! Her computer is doing the same thing as these other guys, you link in, and everything is all black, but you can move around.
Now, if you simply run forward, you run into the welcome sign, which suddenly pops up, but if you look around it's as though you are in a black void.
I'm going to try using the old plug in, but I don't see that fixing this.

BTW..... would changing the fni file cause anything like this?

The fog options are defined in the fni, so I think it could.

Hmm. Now that you mention it, the CampBravo.fni file does look messed up...

The linefeed char is not standard Windows either. Not sure if that would make a difference though.

Indeed. if setyon is too small, or any of the fog settings are nonsensical, then everything will be clipped and only show the clearcolor, which defaults to black if you create a fni in blender. Still, that ought to be consistent, which it's not, seeing as it works for some people.

I agree the fact that it works for some people but not for other lead me to think that the problem might not be with the Age itself..

BINGO! Fixed it! The age now displays correctly on my wife's computer.

It WAS the fni file!!

I had the setdef color 0 0 0
and the clear color 0 0 0

I did this when I wanted to get rid of the fog, oh, gods quite a while ago. I never paid those two any attention. In blender it set them to the zeros.

I just changed them to .4 .4 .5 like is in the Alcug's tutorial, and now the Age is working in my wife's computer!

Yah, that doesn't explain why it worked on mine or others though.........weird.

EDIT: just wanted to mention that I noticed a pattern: People that did not have problems with my Age had Nvidia type cards like me. People that DID have problems (including my wife's computer) had ATI type cards. Significance?

That's just plain weird. Did that fix the problem for your two other guys as well?

I'm still waiting to hear from them. One is in Germany.

I would think if it fixed it on my wife's computer, then it should have fixed it for them. I do know that the Age works though. Dot did a very..........detailed inspection of my age (grumble grumble) and gave me a very detailed report (grumble, okay I'll fix it). : )
Corvus and others have also loaded up the Age just fine. His card is Nvidia too. A 6700.

Jimmy on the other hand got the black screen, his is ATI.
One of the other guys over on UO forum also has an ATI and so does Junee. They also got the black screen. As did my wife on her computer. Different version of Radeon, but all ATI. Weird.
