Interesting, maybe if the .fni is borked the ATI drivers assume a drawing distance of 0 and render only the clear color... That would indeed explain everything.
But I have an nVidia card and I had this problem before. I don't remember what the exact cause of the problem was but I don't thinnk it was the .fni file. I might be wrong though. Let's hope it's indeed the fni file, and that you have successfully fixed it. :)

Out of curiosity: using the bugged version of the age on your wife's computer can you still display the KI? (or any other GUI: Relto book, config menus etc) That would weight in favor of the fni file problem.

I don't know about the KI, but yes, you could move your mouse down and call up the Relto book, journal, options menu, quit menu, etc. You could see them just fine.

Okay, I just got word from Janaba that it fixed it for her computer too, so that was the problem!

Here's a link to the thread over in UO, there are screen shots of the Age, including what she took also:

Well then, based on the fact that a) your HUD's were able to display fine, and b) the problem was sovled by adjusting your fni settings, and c) that it only occurred on specific video cards (Ati, iirc), I think we can safely conculde that the fog settings were just interpreted way wrong by certain video cards :)

Yes we can, as I just had the other person report in (who also had an ATI card) that it's fixed for them too now.

So, we need something somewhere that says that the fni setdefcolor and setclearcolor need to be set to something other than 0 0 0 or you might get this problem for ATI cards.

Hey! Sounds like one for that FAQ y'all been talking about ;)

That is not correct. Actually many Cyan ages have them set to 0 0 0.

I still suspect it is your weird new line notation. What did you use to edit the fni file?

Blender (or PyPRP) should conform to the Uru file standards.

This is what I mean about the new line format. Blender generated file above. D'Lanor generated file (Uru standard) below.

But hang on. Isn't this wrong? Graphics.Renderer.Fog.SetDefLinear 1 0 1. Your end value is smaller than your start value. Perhaps you should change that instead of those perfectly valid 0 0 0 values.

if that's the case, and I'm not saying your wrong since the Age was working for certain people before, why would it suddenly work after changing the colors?

Again, when I first suspected it was the fni file, I deleted it, and had Blender generate a default one. Still ended up with the same problem for those that had ATI cards.
Now my first little age also used all 0's and no one had a problem with it, so.....

Shrugging my shoulders here. The answer is: I don't know.
What I do know however, is after trying everything else, this worked, and if I see this problem again, that's the first thing I'll jump on to try. If it doesn't work then.......shrugging again.

This is what pyprp creates as a default deflinear fni setting at the moment:
Code: Select all
    txt.write("Graphics.Renderer.Fog.SetDefLinear 1 1000 1\n\n")
