Music Question

Post by Terakay »

I was wondering if, in our user-made ages, we can use music from the Uru, or even other Myst games. Or do we have to use our own music? Thanks in advance.

It's not allowed to use any music and textures from other Myst and Uru games. These are the property of Cyan.
You have to use your own music. 8-)

That is not quite correct. It is not allowed to distribute Cyan's sound files but you can still use them in user ages. So what you add to your age is only a reference to the file without distributing the actual file. That means your choice is restricted to what is present in TPOTS.

This method is often used by age writers for sound effects. I don't think there are any user ages which use Cyan's music though and personally I do not like the idea, because music will put associations in the player's mind with the original Cyan age it was heard in.

Here's a link to the post regarding Cyan's position on using their sounds in our ages:

So, yes - you can reference those sounds in your age. Click here for instructions on how to do this.
Can we rebuild it? Yes, we can - here's how.
