Inspiration: images for Age writers

Post by Chacal »

Hi everyone,
Over the years I have gathered dozens of pictures that I found interesting as inspirational material for eventually building an Age.
These are photographs, renders, sketches of natural, mechanical or architectural scenes or objects.
Most of them have inspired visions of dramatic and beautiful Ages in my mind.

Due to real-life events and declining interest, it has become obvious to me that I will never get to actually build an Age.
It would be a shame if this material went to waste, so I have posted it in an on-line album for my fellow Writers.
The album will stay on-line for an unknown time, so grab them while you can.
They are at 1600 pixels for now, but some of the originals are at higher resolution. If you need them, don't hesitate to PM me.

The link to my album is here:

Enjoy!

Wow!!! Those pictures are absolutely breathtaking, Chacal, and so many in one place !!! ... :P

I believe our precious age creators must feel hopelessly overwhelmed and
with a tantalizing itching in their fingers asking themselves where to start first ... :D

Although we'd all love to see and explore a magnificent new age by you, Chacal,
it was a wonderful idea to generously offer those inspirational gems to our age
builder gang ... It'd really be a shame to just delete them one day without them
ever been considered or even used as an imaginative concept or foundation for
a new adventure for us all ... :)

Pity,
I can understand that interest in URU is declining after all these years and nothing realy new storywise and " open UrU" remains still like a " closed UrU" book.
For me its not URU but the " age building " itself what keeps me alive.
I have more fun in building then i ever had in playing URU.
The more skilled you get, the more it feeds the fantasy.

I picked a few photo's from you, because they showed some things similar to what i try to build.
It gives the mind a boost.
thx.
Those wonderfull Worlds are called " Ages" , because that is what it takes to build one.

Awesome pics. I guess I can add myself to the disillusionment with the Age building as well. I collected a bunch of pics, images, brushes & shapes which could be used, but they are all stashed on a memstick somewhere and haven't touched them in over a year or so. Opening the Cavern isn't going to happen anytime soon and I'm beginning to doubt it ever will. If it does, I doubt there will be anyone left around to do anything with it, as I have noticed a marked decline in new Ages in DI, fewer players in Cavern and people who once made a great deal of fan-based contributions have now left.

Unless there was a burst of interest in the Cavern or 'something' happened by Cyan to move things forward and some progress was made, then I guess I can say my Age building days are over (such as they were).

Please do not take these pictures down any time soon. I'm only beginning my 3D modeling journey and I believe URU will be an important part of it. Even if the community fades away and all the shards shut down, I will always take URU's idea of world building with me.

I would like to download all of them at once, but I don't think I can. I'll just have to download all of my favorites one at a time. :-)

I thought,
Hey lets try to make one of Chacal's dreams to become true.

No doubt that you will recognize one of your pictures down here Chacal.

I modeled it today , and still have to do the plants.
And as always, the texturing will be the hardest part to do, or at least it involves the most work.

The area fits nicely in my next age, so once you will be there.

Wow! Great inspiring photos! Thank you for sharing! They will surely come in handy for my own age project (whether it gets ported to Uru or not, I'll still want to be making it).
