What can't we make?

General debates and discussion about the Guild of Writers and Age creation

Inside every sound-file linked Prp is a plasma ref. This is like a hard-wired hyper-link/link. It is encoded in the prp and can only be changed by hex-hacking/prpExplorer/etc. This link is a link to the sound file, another thing in the sub-prp object is time of the audio file. If you happen to know how to play sound with Python, that would be the same as what I'm doing with the suit.

Another thing that's similar to what I am doing is changing SDLs. Putting on the suit is like turning various SDL features in Cyan's ages on. :)

I am not trying to change anyone's opinions, only to have people see (kind of) what view I have on this issue. :) I'm not completely crazy. ;)

Isn't that the Second Life island that Cyan did for marketing purposes?

I think, while Lontahv and Chacal were speaking in opposition, their posts can be combined to represent a pretty concise viewpoint on the matter.

Cyan's control is limited, so we "can" pretty much do anything. If we create an Age that borrows heavily from Cyan content, they're just not present enough to force us to stop.

On the other hand, most guildmembers would agree that doing so wouldn't be terribly interesting. We're looking for new, imaginative content. In a strong way we're a guild of artists more than we are a guild of writers.

This does open a whole new can of worms as to people using Cyan plot content, though. I don't think the community would have an opposing reaction to Ages that use D'ni stuff in the same sense that a work of fanfiction work - in fact, I think we might enjoy it, and that IS something Cyan would "wish" we didn't do. I think if we have plans to do anything of the sort, we should probably wait to see what Cyan's plans are for UU. If they can get their own server up, than we'll go by our previously compiled Age Content Rules to ensure inclusion on their official server.

At this point, "wait for Cyan" is logically identical to "decide not to do it." (And maybe change our minds later if circumstances change.)

I'm not disagreeing with you. I just don't think that it's wise to plan as if a new announcement is around the corner.

No, I think it's more or less equal to "give them some time, and if nothing happens, go for it yourself" ;)
