CRA - Continuous Restoration Age

Postby Nek'rahm » Wed Jul 02, 2008 4:35 pm

Chacal said:

IC: to further advance the restoration of the City or available Ages, the DRC opens a contest similar to the stained glass restoration contests. The theme would be in the lines of "Restore the room behind the door on the second landing of the great stairs". The DRC would specifiy the room measurements, function and other constraints. At some undisclosed point in the future, the door would be unlocked and we could explore the winning entry.

---------------------

Something about this just clicked with me, and I thought of something that combined a lot of things that we know already.

Robert, if I recall, was the one who told us how we can limit the load/lag of Ahra Pahts through his door system. Now, take that, and also what Chacal said, you may have an idea of what I'm thinking.

What if, in the future of the Guild, we construct a large number of Ages. Now, assume for argument's sake, that we sparingly create a CRA. By this I mean, the age is opened to the public little by little. IC, we use sounding equipment on "unstable" rooms and give people the specs of what the room should be sized when we begin to restore it. People can send in ideas of what the room will look like so we can "prepare" for what might be in there.

This would allow the public to play a part in creating the Ages, and yet we'd have something that would keep people coming back day after day.

I think this could be applied to other places as well. Chacal mentioned Ae'gura during his post. Perhaps using Robert's system of doors to isolate different parts from being a large file, the game could run smoother and more areas could be added. This would make it so people would WANT to explore new things every day.

I don't know, I just thought I'd make a separate post for this as it might be received differently in this way than in Chacal's topic. After all, it IS Chacal's topic, not mine.

I love this idea. And if we can't use Ae'gura for a project like this, I have just the thing already in the pipeline. I started it a couple of months ago, working on it in my spare time.

As you can see, the city itself is quite massive, and with the exception of a few floors in the central building, its completely empty as far as rooms go. To give you an accurate representation of the scale of the city, the small figure thats currently selected, is a full "uru scale" Zandi Avatar.

The central tower I only have plans for four floors, the circular Observation deck at the top of the building (the roof is in another layer so that I could finish the room underneath it), the lobby, a basement, and a floor in the middle of the building. Everything else is fair game for anyone who wants to create a floor for the building, or model the interiors of one of the buildings. Anyone who wants to help I can send a blendfile containing the building they want to work on, and once they're finished they can send me it back and I'll reimport that building into the city.

Pretty neat idea Nek. :)

@GPN:

If you're up for it, we could pool a team together and make this CRA age work. I'm sure a bunch of people would be really interested if something really awesome is presentable. :D

I don't have Blender skills, but I'd love to do storyboarding/concept art if you need or like it for future sections of the Age.

Have you already thought of a name for this place? It is a really cool concept so far :D

LOL, thats cause the Council Building, in the center, is supported by four identical statues on each side representing the four gods of that world. They hold up the central observation deck that over look the city, and give stability to the building itself. So they look like giants towering over the city.

Thanks. I'd love the help on it. Its called Atlantea. The concept I had for it is that it is based upon the city of Atlantis. All underwater, and protected by dome that covers the entire city. On its first release the dome is broken and the city is flooded. Which is why the council building is the only thing I started modeling the inside of. The idea being that once you got to the top you see where you are, realize "Hey I'm underwater" and a animation plays of a sea-monster that swims through the city from a giant hole in the dome. Slowly as more and more is added to the city, the dome is fixed, and the sea-monster is stuck on the outside once again looking in. At that point I intended to add little interiors to all the buildings.

O_o

*omg*

That's... incredible...

You stole my idea though XD. I had an old idea of a "Pod" that rested underwater with a system of high speed trams to link to other *small* pods that sat on underwater rock formations.

But yeah, this looks absolutely beautiful. Anyone else interested in getting a small-med team of people together to help Milano with this :D

Like I said, anyone who wants to contribute to the city is more than welcome. Its rather large, and there's room for more buildings and the entire thing will eventually need to be modeled interior wise, so the help is greatly appreciated. I just loaded Ae'gura in blender to get an idea on the size of it versus Atlantea. In sheer distance size alone, its about three times the size of A'egura.

Son of a...

You're going to implement Robert's portal door system if you want this Age to be loadable O-o

But yeah, I'll be glad to help you out with conceptualizing, any artistry, and storyboarding if you want.

Can't do blender though. It hates me :S

Will there be some general style guidelines for submissions for this city, so that it seems like it really is from a single civilization?
