Exact object dimensions for avatar animations

Postby di gama » Sun Jul 13, 2008 4:42 am

Does anyone know the exact dimensions of ladders, sittable objects, and other things like that based on the avatar's animations?

Yes, the avatar is 6 blender units high, 2 wide. Anything over those dimensions will look "right" with ladders, chairs, etc. Though to be technical it isn't necessary, as the object itself is just a visual representation. The region is what controls the animation.

That isn't exactly what I mean. For example, with ladders, the avatar reaches up and grabs objects in a specific place. If there is no visible object of the right size where the avatar appears to be placing his hands, the animation won't look right. How far from the climbing plane must it be, how high must the first rung be above the floor (it's not 0.42 blender units), and what radius should the rungs have? The only way to get this information is with either trial and error or by watching the climbing animation from another angle or outside Uru. Has anyone "trialed and errored" enough to have these values?

the rungs are 2 blender units apart, and the top of the rung should be 0.42 units plus 1 or 2 or 3, etc, units above the floor. ie, the tutorial is right, the first rung should be .42 units above the floor, but the avatar doesn't actually step on that rung. As far as radius goes, it doesn't particularly matter as long as the tops of the rungs are in the right place. I'd suggest building the ladder to scale and then just adjusting it until it looks right, which will then probably look right in uru.
