It seems like this thread has totally slipped from talking about "Which Fan Age should go first in MOUL" to "Should we access Explorer written Ages through a Nexus or Library"..
I stick to my point that a Nexus (or Library) should still be the first, or at least one of the first fan Age to be released..
Now, continuing on the interesting Library/Nexus debate: why can't we have both at the same time?

It could also be completely possible to have something in-between the two: a place where people can meet, move around and that can be expanded and have in this place a Nexus book machine which has a much more practical interface than having books lying around.
Yes and Yes. I was always very disappointed that we never had a real library in Uru. Sure we have the City Library, but while it is a very nice looking place it doesn't look at all like a library to me.. In my mind a library must have shelves, dozens of them, categories, with signs and labels, and directions to find your way around.. Of course it would be more or less empty at first but I think it is a good thing, it would entice us to create more Ages to fill those empty shelves.
The Nexus is very useful, but it is also very cold and lonely. A library should be a warm living place, full of light and people chatting about the latest Ages.. (The Nexus seriously gives me the creeps..

) The only nice thing about the Nexus is that is loads pretty fast. But I think the repository of our Books should be a much more meaningful place, not something purely functionnal.
Then why shouldn't be have both at the same time? Have a library that would also feature Nexus style consoles. The best of both worlds.
Trylon wrote:I have this idea that a well designed and well programmed bookshelves area could be as dynamic as the nexus though. If programmed correctly, it could be filled up dynamically,
That would be great and would solve the problem of updating the Age each time a book is added. If we only need to change a couple SDL variables or something similar, and the new book appears on the shelve, that'd be great.
I really like the idea of having machines, "book pickers". Some libraries on earth already have similar systems. The internal library of France's ministry of finances has one, it's totally rad

. It would be absolutely awesome to select your book on a console GUI and then see tiny mechanical systems get busy and bring the book to you.
