I wish you luck with this and I hope that you are prepared for the flak you will recieve for it. Violence is generally frowned upon in Myst type games some would say Myst is Non violent... which is a fallicy. However there is no real FSP style action in Myst... save of course Myst Mayhem.

But just out of curiousity how are you going to make it so we real explores don't get killed traversing this Age?

Bear in mind, that with just D'ni and their Writing, the spectrum of possibilities is enormous. The best example is Exicle: Sevedro was a native from another Age. At that point Cyan (or Presto, whoever was deciding on the story) could make him whatever: a shape-shifter, a horny red devil, a green blob, _anything_ was acceptable, becouse he was from another Age.

So again: why?

I don't want to just put him in this age with no clue how he got there, because he's by himself. and his personality is influenced by the fact that he's able to write ages. the way he writes is very different though, and I just finished writing one of his descriptive books you can actually read. also, he helps make the age what it is, without him it's not the same.

Unless of course he decides to build his age for fan-shards only where Cyan's restrictions do not apply. After all, many (if not most) of the ages currently available do not fit Cyan's conditions.
I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

Every year I hope Cyan will reveal this was not an april fools' joke and they are indeed developping it. :(

A FPS game doesn't need to have violence or blood to be fun, a paintball game or something similar can be fun and non-violent.
Several years ago I had written a quick game design document for a Myst FPS CTF ('capture the flag') game where players were Achenar and Sirrus fanatics and would run around on Myst islands in robes and sandals hitting each other's head with linking books while trying to get the red/blue pages. :D

This seems like a cool game. So from this room I can go anywhere I want? Kirel? Sure I'll go there. Hey, free T-Shirts! Ah ha! This must be the best one, it's farther away! Hey, cool website! So what exactly is an age?

i don't completely know how, but I want explorers to be killed. i want them to respawn at their base.
problem I have though, is that it's fan created content that would be rated at least "T"; for something like myst, i'm not sure that's okay with cyan. they said the ages have to fit with their guidelines.

I guess so.

unfortunately, i want explorers to have multiple weapons to swap through. i'm including a sniper rifle. considering the distance it can shoot, no matter what kind of gun it is, it will hurt.

I guess though that I could change things a bit and say that explorers aren't "hurt" by these types of weapons.

I would really like to have capture the flag. It would work too, with the way the map is. Should still have a normal mode though, or else some things are completely pointless.

Edit: Actually, I think it should be just one gun with a low firerate (two shots a second or something), good accuracy, some recoil, maybe it should need to charge, and an efficient scope for long distances. The gun shoots these things that beam you back to the start. You should be invulnerable for about 3 seconds after respawning. There, not very violent.

Alright, I'll get started redrawing the map.

Beaming someone back to the start sounds complicated (both to explain and to implement). Perhaps:

1. An honor code? Guns hit people noticeably (by the person hit especially) somehow, and tournaments/fights by various agreeing parties will have rules on what to do then (going back to the beginning, for example). This would allow people to have different rules too (some would prefer 1 hit "kills", others a more endurance one where you'd have to get more hits before "dying" - also, referees of some kind could walk around without worrying about getting hit).
2. A shot that binds a person to a spot for awhile (perhaps the game could even be a sort of race/maze/marker game run of kinds, with the shooting and slowing down of opponents being a tactic)?
3. Or maybe a shot that blinds a person? Then there would be some control to have them stagger back to the start (but without needing to explain why the shots in this Age do so) where they could rinse themselves off?
4. A shot that disarms the other player? So you're trying to hold on to your weapon as long as possible, while continually disarming the others. Spare weapons would be back in the starting area (so logistically it would be like a respawn of sorts, since you'd have to go back to be an armed player again - also, you wouldn't be able to be meaningfully hit again until you went back and rearmed).
