My Age : "Somewhere"

If you feel like you're up to the challenge of building your own Ages in Blender or 3ds Max, this is the place for you!

Hello Denost,

I'm sorry to say that moving in "Somewhere" is very slow for me, although my PC is more high end than low.
I think the performance would improve if you turn off "shadbuf" on your materials, which is per default on in Blender.

This can easily be done with a PyPrp Wizard which is contained in the plugin.

Is this a test version or intended for being installed on DI Shard?
I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

In my mind it is a test version.
I indicated in my post comments would be appreciated.

But if you consider "Somewhere" could be included in Deep Island Shard, you may do it.

My PC is not ready to use DI Shard.

Now I am working to improve the performance.
- desactivate "shadbuf". I did it on the 200 materials I use. -------------> NO EFFECT
- VisRegions : I tested it on 2000 objects without visible effect. But I plan to continue the tests.

I think I have to cancel bounds (triangle mesh) for a large number of objects.

I insist on the fact that I have no problem on my PC

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

This issue is important because I have a big extension almost ready to be added to Somewhere.
And obviously the performance will not be improved.
So it could be playable only on some PC...

Any suggestions and/or comments will be welcome

I took a look at your age and it seems the physical objects are the problem (as you suspected) since the visible geometry looks quite optimized to me. First of all, try to cut down on the number of physical objects (especially kickables). If you have any kickables, set them to convex hull, sphere, or box bounds (triangle mesh is almost never worth it for kickable objects). Here's a good post about convex hull bounds: http://forum.guildofwriters.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=2885 For the planks, consider making a simple flat invisible collider instead of making the planks themselves colliders. :)
Currently getting some ink on my hands over at the Guild Of Ink-Makers (PyPRP2).

OK well I just got done running through it and it worked just fine for me though I am using a quad core. The starting area looks new, was it in the original version of the age? Also are you planning on adding a sky or is it just going to stay black?

I enjoyed the age very much. Plenty to see and do and I particularly enjoyed your original design concepts.

I admit I'm confused regarding your computer specs. What you've described here is a netbook. I can't imagine how you're building in Blender and testing/playing your age in URU with zero problems on a netbook. Are you using this as a client to work off a larger server? It's really none of my business how you build your age, but I'm curious.

You are right and I am sorry.
I made a confusion between the two "dxdiag" files of my PCs

No, the starting area was not in the original version. It's a new place.
For the sky:
For the moment I prefer a black sky. It's better to create a strange atmosphere.
May be later I could create some bodies like planets, satellites...Not only to see them, but to explore them...big challenge

I hope my answers satisfy your questions.
Do not hesitate to give your opinion or your remarks (defaults, aspects, logic...)

That would be awesome. Also are you planning on translating the text on the billboards?

I have to do it.
with :
- improving some textures, performances,
- placing objects in the buldings (library, museum)
- continue the development of a big new area, to be visited after this one and in the same Age
- completing all noises for elevators, buttons...
- what I discover each day which needs corrections
