xfogDistTweener trigger problem

Postby rocketdog » Tue Nov 12, 2013 8:47 am

Hello All !

I couldn’t get “xfogDistTweener” to work in my age the way I wanted, because I needed the fog to be contained in one spot only, so I ended up making a surface fog like the fog in Relto. Now when I set up a “(ex)ladder component” I get fog. The up “(ex)ladder component” is turning the fog on and the down “(ex)ladder component” is turning the fog off. Also the ladder has become invisible but the avatar climes up and down the invisible ladder.

I think  "xfogDistTweener"  is still active and is seeing the (ex)ladder components as the “xfogDistTweener” trigger.

Any idea’s on how to fix this, without redoing the entire age?

Thanks,

Hey,

I don't believe this is an issue with the Ladder Components. It sounds like this is an alpha issue relating to the fog you made similar to relto, if it's causing the ladder objects to disappear from view it's a blending issue. I'm assuming you're not using xFogSet or xFogDistTweener anywhere else in your age. How exactly did you set up the fog cloud like Relto has. Did you do it JUST like Relto's or did you use a texture with alpha and change the color and nothing else?

I forgot to mention I am using 3DS Max, sorry.

I am 100% sure that “xfogDistTweeter” is triggering off the (ex)ladder Component, and I don't think it has anything to do with the surface fog because I removed the surface fog thinking that it could be causing the problem, but nothing changed. I can add other ladders and triggers and they will work, but the original ladder that I set up will always trigger the fog. The fog shuts off the second I get to the top of the ladder and turn back on the second I start to climb down the ladder. If I go into fly mode and fly next to the ladder so that my feet are even with the top of the ladder the fog is off, if I drop down at all the fog turns back on.

The surface fog I created is two animated textured planes, and yes they are “alpha”.

I am not using “xFogSet” or “xFogDistTweener” at all in the age. But I think “xFogDistTweener” is somehow still active. Because I was having this problem I reinstalled “xFogDistTweener” into my age and turned every setting to 0.0. Once I did that the fog no longer showed up in age which tells me “xFogDistTweener” is still active. That would solve the fog problem but the ladder is still invisible.

I should also mention that the first time I walk up to where I know the ladder is, I will walk through it, but once I fly up to the top of the ladder and climb down I can then walk away from the ladder come back and climb up the ladder.

When you delete the component from the component manager it sometimes retains a copy in the layers manager and tends to screw stuff up if you dont delete them from both
also I have done some experimenting with ladders and from the tutorial and my own experiments I have found that the ladder component consist of two component and three boxes, none of which are rendered
the graphics for the ladder hasta be done separately

I have a testex age with 6,8,10,12, and 48 foot ladders if your interested, although I was never able to figure out the 2 or 4 foot ladders

Fixed !!!

There was a file in my output .dat folder named “mat_TestFogDisTweener” or something like that and the texture I used had the Z no write turned on. I'm not sure which one of these were the problem but it's working now

Thanks for the help though.

Just as a side note.

I should mention that after I solved the above problem I found another. I had a swim trigger next to a ladder trigger and the swim trigger covered one small corner of the ladder trigger. This prevented the avatar from climbing the ladder.
